GELATO EUROPEAN ROUTE officially received its European Union Trade Mark (EUTM) Certificate of Registration from the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

Brussels, 04/09/25

The GelatOn the Road Community celebrates an important milestone: GELATO EUROPEAN ROUTE has officially received its European Union Trade Mark (EUTM) Certificate of Registration from the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).

This recognition strengthens the identity of the initiative across Europe and safeguards its distinctiveness in all the 27 EU Member States and beyond. It represents not only legal protection but, above all, the acknowledgment of the GELATO EUROPEAN ROUTE as a quality mark.  It constitutes also a new opportunity to enhance the visibility and growth of this multifaceted initiative within the international market.

The initiative was developed by Venetian Cluster, Italy’s first productive cluster dedicated to cultural and environmental heritage, together with European partners and stakeholders who share a passion for promoting the excellence of Gelato Artigianale. Their joint commitment has resulted in a brand that embodies tradition, authenticity, and innovation.

The trademark is a seal of authenticity and excellence, but it is not automatically available to every gelato producer. To use the GELATO EUROPEAN ROUTE mark, producers must adhere to the project’s protocol, which formalizes their commitment to preserving, promoting, and enhancing artisanal gelato. This protocol serves as the official framework of rules, ensuring that any gelato carrying the mark is truly Artigianale, a genuine handicraft ice cream made according to traditional methods and the highest quality standards.

In addition to celebrating Gelato as a symbol of excellence, the GELATO EUROPEAN ROUTE deeply embraces the values of cultural and sustainable tourism. By connecting artisanal gelato with local communities, cultural heritage, and responsible travel, the project fosters experiences that respect the environment while promoting authentic regional and local traditions. This approach supports the development of a tourism model that is inclusive, eco-conscious, and culturally enriching.

With the granting of the European Union Trademark Certificate of Registration, GELATO EUROPEAN ROUTE is now officially protected throughout the European Union. This protection paves the way for future initiatives, international events, and strategic partnerships aimed at spreading and celebrating the culture of artisanal gelato worldwide. This achievement reflects the strength and unity of the gelato community and its ability to innovate while remaining faithful to its roots. The road ahead is full of opportunities, the tasty journey has just begun.

The official announcement of the GELATO EUROPEAN ROUTE EU Trademark registration took place during the Monthly Online Consortium Meeting on September 6th, 2025.
